I am an Eco Warrior!

This half term our Big idea is all about being an Eco Warrior. Our main topics linked to our Big Idea this half term will be Geography, Science, Design and Technology and Art. We will be exploring electricity in Science and using our knowledge of circuits and conductors in DT to design and make our own torches. In Art we will be exploring sculpture and creating our own pieces of art from recycled and/ or natural resources. Our Geography links to Mountains where we will learn about mountains in the UK and other parts of the world. We will be discussing big ideas and questions around climate change, global warming and what small changes we can do to make a big difference to our future.

Animation

In year 4 this half term we have been learning all about Animation and using ‘2animate’ to create our own animations. We have learnt about tecniques such as ‘onion skinning’ to  help create continuity in our animations and have added backgrounds and sound effects. We also created posters aimed at Year 4 children explaining how to use the different features of 2animate.

I am an Explorer!

Our Big Idea for this half term is ‘I am an explorer’. Our Big Idea will be focused around history and we will be travelling back in time to Ancient Greece. Our English work will be driven by the high quality text ‘A Visitor’s Guide to Ancient Greece’. Children will study this book as a model to write their own visitors guide to Ancient Greece using the knowledge they learn during our history lessons. Our class story will also have a link to Ancient Greece where children will unpick an ancient mystery.

Our Science work for this half term explores Living things and their habitats. Our learning in Science builds on the foundations of knowledge from Year 1 upwards and children will be grouping and and classifying animals in different ways, studying and gathering data on animals in our local environment and looking at the impact we have on the environment around us both positive and negative.

A Roman Adventure!

As part of our local history topic and our big idea ‘I am part of my community’ Year 4 went on a school trip to Aldborough Roman Site ( Isurium Brigantum). We had a tour of the grounds of Isurium Brigantum with Nigel, our local historian! We could see the ruined foundation walls of the settlement and the mosaics that were in the fields behind the museum. We learnt all about the artefacts that have been discovered over the years and were able to see them in the museum on site. Finally, we made our own Mosaic designs inspired by our visit.

Learning at home

Hi everyone,

If some of Year 4 are learning at home on Monday and Tuesday due to the hot weather, I have attached some work we will be completing in class.

In Monday’s maths lesson we are looking at the 12 hour clock. In English, we are doing some Geography based work as it is Culture week. We will be identifying the countries in Europe.Y4-Summer-Block-3-WO3-Analogue-to-digital-12-hour-2020-1

(Don’t look at the answers until you’ve worked them out yourself!)

In Tuesday’s maths lesson we are looking at the 24 hour clock. We will then be using laptops/tablets to research similarities and differences of Athens in Greece and North Yorkshire. We will use our notes to create a poster on Wednesday. Y4-Summer-Block-3-WO4-Analogue-to-digital-24-hour-2020

Stay cool!
